Jan’s Story - Have You Got A Glass Eye, Miss?

Jan contracted a melanoma of the iris in her right eye ten years ago. After nine years of surgery and treatment, she made the mammoth decision to have her eye removed.

Jan talks about what she feared most at that time, and how she now copes as a teacher/librarian with personal questions from her students.

Years later I had some counselling for another reason and was made to realise that what I went through was a big change. I should have had some counselling at that time. I was at a vulnerable age when your looks are so important. I would certainly recommend to anyone facing eye loss - to get some counselling and support.
