Artificial Eyes

Eye Patch

This morning I noticed an advertisement for suede eye patches.  We once had a client who enjoyed making several eye patches in different colours and fabrics.

After surgery there is a six to eight week period of recuperation before an artificial eye is fitted.  Initially most people wear surgical gauze over the eye.  The surgery site will have some bruising.  Like many wounds it will look a bit dramatic for a week or so.  After the gauze is removed some people like to wear an eye patch.  We find that after the few days people abandon the patch in favour of sunglasses.  The sunglasses are more comfortable and attract a lot less attention.

This is particularly true of people who return to work.  They tell us that if they wear an eye patch they get questioned all day.  If they wear sunglasses no one comments at all.

As with most things – do what suits you best.  For some it will be a pirate patch for others some James Bond sunglasses.  There may be some of you who are comfortable wearing nothing at all.  Do what you feel most comfortable with.
